Alina Zagitova moments before starting her long program in the women's free skate
It's the final night of women's figure skating at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PeyeungChang South Korea, We are nearing the final three performances and will soon find out who will bring home the Gold Medal. The big question tonight however, is whether it will be Alina Zagitova 15 (of Russia) or Evgenia Medvedeva 18 (also of Russia) in what twitter has dubbed #RussianShowdown
First to skate was the teenage powerhouse Alina Zagitova, looked ravishing in red. Already a two time champion Zagitova had her game face on al night. Her long program was executed perfectly and on perfect point with the music. She attempted a tripple tripple lutz early in the program but changed her mind saving the stunning jump for her finale. Zagitova skates a perfect routine, one that puts her in first place with a score of 239.57
Before Medvedeva's performance Kaitlyn Osmond of Canada - skated a striking routine to music from the ballet Swan Lake. A perfectly executed routine that earned her second place. While watching her routine - which would earn her a 231.02, Johnny Weir said "This swan has earned her wings"

"Zagitova may have been stealing her thunder but she’s not going down without a fight”
Evgenia Medvedeva took the ice last and skated a smoldering routine to a classic piece of Russian music. The performance, following a trend in the top three was executed flawlessly. Twitter, the crowd, and even the commentators were well-divided on who would take the gold. Following a few tense moments, Medvedeva came up short, less than a point behind Zagitova with a score of 238.87 and took silver.
Regardless of the winner, the commenters agreed that this was the best ladies free skate they'd seen and that #RussianShowdown would go down in Olympic history as a classic.
